SMP was founded in March 2002 by a group of medical students from the neighboring Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica. True to SMP’s original vision, the organization continues to be student directed and its programs student run.
The one time registration fee allows for lifelong involvement with the organization, allowing for members at all stages of their medical careers to participate in SMP projects. SMP holds a General Body Meeting at the beginning of each semester, which outlines the plans and upcoming events for that term. This meeting doubles as a Recruitment Drive to sign up new members. This student-driven organization holds tri-annual elections of their executive board (E-board) one for each semester. This is an opportunity for those who wish to contribute to SMP’s vision to take on a leadership role. They are responsible for organizing the recruitment & fundraising events that help finance the purchase of medications, supplies & equipment for the Salybia Clinic. |
