Who We Are
Salybia Mission Project (SMP) is a nationally recognized non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of the indigenous Kalinago community. Founded in 2002 by a group of medical students from Ross University School of Medicine, SMP’s organizational structure and project management continues to be student directed and administered. |
Our NGO Executive Board
A Non Governmental Organization (NGO) Board of Directors is comprised of SMP supporters who include Kalinago Community Leaders, Clinical Medical Staff, Dominican community leaders and others from around the world, including doctors, nurses and other dedicated professionals. The NGO Board also provides a liaison for national and international organizations to interact with SMP.

- Annette Sanford, Deputy Chief, and nurse by profession, who was trained on Dominica on a SMP scholarship. Two of her projects include training Kalinago caregivers and assisting young women with children access education
- Dr. Worrel Sanford, Dominica's resident dermatologist
- Nurse, Winnie Joseph, also trained in Dominica on an SMP scholarship. She also is the community health nurse for the Castle Bruce District.
- Tina Alexander, Lifeline Ministries Executive Director, Counsellor, Social worker and Women’s advocate; she has been active as a board member for 10 years.

- Sylvia Marcos - one of the original Ross University founders of SMP
- Eric Neilson - doctor and professor at Ross University while the university was located on Dominica
- Robbie Gee - Professor, Behavioral Sciences and Manager, Clinical Student Support, while employed at Ross University while the university was located on Dominica
- Rachel Scott - need brief background info
- Lindsay Clark - need brief background info
- Greg German - consultant and longtime advocate of SMP, and a former resident of Dominica
Salybia Mission Project aims to fulfill its mission by:
- Operating and staffing a medical clinic in the Kalinago Territory to improve the quality & availability of health care for all who come
- Securing, improving, and maintaining a quality facility in which the clinic may be conducted
- Securing through purchase or donation the required supplies and equipment to enable the clinic to serve successfully
- Developing ancillary programs and services such as medical transport, which will contribute to the health care program of the clinic
- Conducting educational programs in order to improve and create a widespread knowledge of community health issues
- Preparing people for professional or paraprofessional service at the clinic or in the community
- Advocating on behalf of the community to assure their needs are equitably addressed within the larger national health care system
- Responding positively to new opportunities for service that will enhance the success of SMP’s work within the community
- Working with others to emulate successful SMP programs in other places on the island
